ACCELERATING POWER DEMAND, EVOLVING POLICY AND MARKET TRENDS HAVE HEIGHTENED THE FOCUS ON THE U.S.'S 95 OPERATIONAL NUCLEAR REACTORS, WHICH ACCOUNT FOR ~20% OF THE U.S. POWER MIX. WE LOOK AT WHAT MAY
One thing I've wondered about - maybe somebody can help me out - we've had something like SMRs powering nuclear subs and other marine applications for years, so that technology has been proven. How different are SMRs that are being developed for generating electric power?
Al, we have the best SMRs running in the world, but we have the highest regulatory costs per capita in the world. Even Russia is taking school kids on rides on their nuclear icebreakers. I firmly believe that SMRs, Nuclear, and Micro Grids will be critical components. - Especially with the potential disruptions to the grid planned by terrorists and allowed by our current administration.
